Today's post comes to you from my Boston apartment - We're featuring St. Tropez's Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse!
Who doesn't love to be a little bronzed during the summer months? I do! In the past, I've had my fair share of spray tan sessions but we all know how quickly those can add up (I'm talking dollar signs $$). I must also admit how fearful I am of getting a spray tan in the summer months - walking from the salon to my car is a nightmare. You can't get wet for 4-6 hours and I'm breaking a sweat just walking 500 feet - not cool (also, who enjoys a runny tan?). My Solution to those who feel the same way is the St. Tropez at home self tanners. There is nothing like getting your tan on in an air conditioned environment!
I'm sure you're asking yourself, "Sam, why don't you just go outside like normal people? You'd get just as good of a tan." My response would be, "I'd love to! But I'm a desk rat 5 days of the week and I have school on the weekends. Thank you, though!" I'm sure I've struck a chord with some of you - am I right? Don't worry, I'm here to solve all your troubles - let's get to it then...
My quest to find the best at home self tanner led me to any and all of the review forums you could think of. That's where I stumbled upon the St. Tropez line - specifically the Express Bronzing Mousse. This product boasts the most even and natural looking tan in 3 hours! Actually, it's quite a versatile product. The Express Bronzing Mousse provides its user with a few options - meaning that it can be used gradually. Let me explain. Leaving the product on your skin for one hour makes for a light and sun kissed tan, 2 hours will give you a medium level tan, and 3 hours will give you a rich tan (prepare to be answering questions like, "did you go on vacation?").
The Process: Prior to applying the Express Bronzing Mousse, I get all cleaned up! This includes any shaving and exfoliating! This ensures that all dead skin/ hair is cleaned away - making for a more even and longer lasting self tanning experience. Once you're dried off, be sure to add some light moisturizer to your body - be sure to really get your elbows, knees, feet, and hands. You wouldn't want any dry blotchy patches!
This is when the fun starts. DISROBE! Unless you don't mind getting self tanner all over your clothes - in that case, you do you. To avoid a streaky application, I HIGHLY recommend getting the St. Tropez Application Mitt. I thought it was a gimmick, until I went through this process the first time - it really does make a difference! Start from the bottom up. This product comes with a handy dandy pump, so take your mitt and add 2 pumps (insert inappropriate joke here) of the Express Bronzing Mousse.
tart massaging the mousse evenly onto your legs. Make sure you are making a smoothing motion - this stuff goes a long way. Get your knees, ankles, behind the knee ... go crazy! Repeat this process on the other leg and work your way up!
Pro Tip: I have found that two pumps was sufficient for the legs, 2 pumps for the midsection, 2 pumps for the back area, and 1 pump for the face and arms (each). You may have to enlist someone to get those pesky hard to reach areas on your back. Once you're all covered in the Express Bronzing Mousse, allow a minute or two to go by for drying. Get dressed again and pick your time - either 1,2, or 3 hours! DING DING! When your time is up, hop your tan behind in the shower and RINSE away the bronzing agent. Try to avoid any shaving or exfoliating when rinsing and be sure to moisturize when you're all dried off.
In previous trials, I have seen this product to last for 4-5 days - this is as long as I am diligent about moisturizing and veering away from any products with salicylic acid in it. If you're curious about this product, I recommend you visit St. Tropez's site. Feel free to do your own trial research too. For $44 USD, you can't go wrong. A normal spray session at a salon can run you anywhere from $40 up.
